VIPPS


Vipps is Norway's leading mobile payment app, enabling users to send and receive money, pay bills, and make purchases using just a mobile phone number, and is widely accepted across the country.

I have a long history with Vipps. I have worked with the brand since its conception, on both an advertising and brand level, developing brand guidelines and I even worked at Vipps for a temporary period.

Meet “Vippsi” 


“Vippsi” as he/she goes, is the brand mascot developed by Animasjonsdepartementet & TRY and was originally a physical puppet, animated stop-motion. I was brough into Vipps to bring Vippsi into the brand on a digital level that could be animated in-house quickly for social media and web etc. 
My experience working with the Vipps identity at SDG (and advertising at TRY) helped me to wrangle in some of the problems that came along with transforming a puppet into a graphic. Tbh, the character that was developed without much consideration for guidelines or the brand at all.

I worked closely with Vipps’ in-house brand manager to reasses and wrangle in Vippsi’s unique qualities into optimum brand recognition, keeping her recogniseable and on-brand without changing her vibe. That included making a massive rig in After Effects that was easy to use and included many variations of hands, facial expressions, gesturs, postures and slider controls to make it simple and easy for their in-house designers to use. 
The project opens in After Effects with a welcoming overview and tutorial on her various controls and features, minimalising the learning curve for those across the Nordics downloading it from the brand asset library.
